Eugene 2010

"Forget regret-or life is yours to miss" -from RENT, Jonathon Larson

My Tri coach once advised to write a race strategy. Detailed. He would say, "I want to read it and be able to visualize what time you will get up, what you will eat for breakfast, what color socks you will pack, how your transition area is situated and the way your race is going to play out as if I'm you."
My race strategy for Eugene looked a little like a programming flow chart...if this, then:
If dizzy before mile 6...then don't hurt yourself, it was a good attempt given the past few weeks.
If dizzy at mile 9, then head for the split off and run the course for the half...work out the confusion later.
If dizzy at mile 13, then take a walk break, drink, Gu, and keep repeating, I'm halfway done.
If dizzy at mile 16, then take a walk break, drink, Gu, and think about Amberle running next to you and how far her training has progressed.
If dizzy at mile 18, then take a walk break, drink, GU, and start making a mental list of all the things you are thankful for.
If dizzy at mile 20, suck it up...No regrets...the only thing that is keeping you from finishing now is if you pass out.
Somehow that worked-at each marker I felt a little more determined to press on.
Everything is kind of a blur-trees, park benches, flowers, the river, Mainstreet in Springfield, brew pubs on six corners, lots of green shirts, water stations, and Hayward field coming into view.

I'm two-thirds of a maniac :) One more race to qualify.

  2. Congratulations Cindy! You are already a maniac from the sounds of things! I can't remember what it takes to become a maniac I'll have to go look it up again - you must have another marathon already scheduled? Keep it up!
